A Rock-and-Roll Wedding at Riverwood Mansion: Nashville’s Perfect Backdrop for True-to-Color Photography
Nashville, Tennessee, isn’t just known for its country music roots—it’s also a hub for love stories as unique as the couples who bring them to life. One of the most memorable weddings I’ve captured as a wedding photographer was a rock-and-roll-inspired celebration at the iconic Riverwood Mansion in East Nashville. With its historic charm and lush surroundings, this venue was the perfect match for a couple who wanted to blend timeless elegance with edgy, modern vibes.
Nestled in East Nashville, Riverwood Mansion is a favorite among couples seeking an unforgettable wedding venue. Its Greek Revival architecture, expansive grounds, and enchanting gardens create the perfect balance between sophistication and Southern charm. Whether you’re planning a large-scale affair or a smaller, intimate wedding, Riverwood Mansion offers versatility while retaining its historic beauty.
For this wedding, the couple embraced the mansion’s natural elegance while infusing their day with bold, personalized touches. From sleek black accents to custom artwork by Brandon Owens, every detail reflected their style.
One of the standout elements of this wedding was the stunning artistry of Brandon Owens, whose work brought an unmatched level of creativity to the day. Known for his contributions to the contemporary Western art genre, Brandon combines his intuitive illustrative instincts with the cowboy influences of his youth, filtered through a lifetime of graphic design experience. His unique background includes designing graphics for his California skateboard crew in his early days and working with country recording artists after his move to Tennessee. These influences blend seamlessly in his fine art practice, which has garnered attention from collectors nationwide.
For this wedding, Brandon’s artistry was on full display. He designed a custom lining for the groom’s tuxedo, a hidden surprise that added a meaningful and stylish touch to the groom’s attire. His work didn’t stop there—Brandon also crafted beautifully illustrated signage that guided guests through the day and created custom leather jackets for the couple to wear during their post-ceremony portraits. Each piece reflected his ability to blend storytelling, design, and fine art into something deeply personal.
Brandon’s contributions added a layer of artistry that elevated the entire wedding, creating a perfect marriage of the couple’s rock-and-roll spirit and the timeless elegance of Riverwood Mansion. These days, Brandon continues to create striking works of art from his studio in Tennessee, balancing his creative projects with time spent with his family in both Tennessee and Kentucky.

The ceremony took place in Riverwood Mansion’s garden, where the couple exchanged vows under an arch adorned with fresh greenery and white florals. The sunlight filtering through the trees created a dreamy, true-to-color backdrop—perfect for candid wedding photography.
One unique highlight was the couple’s beloved dog, dressed in a tuxedo and lying obediently by their side throughout the ceremony. Including pets in weddings is a trend I love capturing, as it adds a layer of personality and heart to the day. This moment was a perfect example of how candid photography can tell a story as it unfolds, creating images that feel as authentic as the love shared.
After the ceremony, I worked with the couple to capture editorial-style portraits. With Riverwood Mansion’s stately façade in the background, the bride’s sleek, minimalist gown and the groom’s classic black tuxedo popped against the lush greenery. The bride’s fiery red hair added a striking contrast, which we incorporated into the shoot to highlight their bold, rock-and-roll aesthetic.
The custom leather jackets designed by Brandon Owens were another highlight of the portrait session. The couple wore these during their post-ceremony portraits, adding a rebellious and stylish edge to their timeless attire.

Inside Riverwood Mansion, the reception was an explosion of energy. The décor featured deep black accents paired with moody candlelight and metallic touches. Guests dined on locally sourced dishes before taking to the dance floor, where a playlist of classic rock hits kept the party going all night.
As a wedding photographer in Nashville, one of my favorite moments to capture is when the couple and their guests let loose on the dance floor. These candid moments—the bride spinning in her dress, the groom singing along with friends—are the ones that couples treasure most when they look back on their day.

After the reception, the newlyweds took their rock-and-roll celebration to the next level with an unforgettable after-party at Jane’s Hideaway, one of East Nashville’s coziest dive bars. Surrounded by their closest friends, many of whom are talented musicians, the couple turned the venue into their very own rock concert. From original songs to incredible covers of hits by Metallica and AC/DC, the night was filled with jaw-dropping performances and singalongs that reflected the couple’s love for music.
Capturing these moments felt like being in the middle of an intimate concert. Everyone was on their feet, cheering, dancing, and celebrating in true Nashville style. This after-party was a perfect example of how couples can personalize their wedding day to reflect their passions and bring their community together.

When planning your wedding, choosing the right photography style is crucial. For couples like this one, a mix of candid and editorial photography was the perfect way to capture both the emotions of the day and the intentionality of their design choices.
