When I received this destination wedding inquiry in my inbox, the location said New Orleans, Louisiana. I could not believe my eyes. I thought to myself “this is impossible, this couple has contacted the wrong photographer.” However, it was not a mistake. Morgann, Jake, and I jumped on a Zoom call to discuss what intimate wedding package would be best for them! I knew from the start of the video call that this was a couple I wanted to be friends with, that I wanted to be a part of their lives – not only for their wedding but years to come. I wanted to be their photographer more than anything in this world.
Then… the day came, and Morgann and Jake booked me to tell their story. I turned to my husband and said “they want ME!! Out of all other photographers, THEY WANT ME!” Needless to say, it was a little emotional for me. This was a HUGE moment.
Morgann and Jake asked beautiful questions, and we worked together seamlessly to tell their story from their unique engagement session in Nashville Tennesse to their vibrant, intimate wedding in New Orleans Louisiana. Morgann and Jake told me they weren’t looking for the typical photos you see. I remember Morgann saying “don’t put us in the middle of a field… we want something different.” Those words stuck with me the rest of my wedding season (for a good reason). Morgann and Jake challenged my creative skills and allowed me to tell their story in a way that was authentic to them, and me. I worked endlessly the remainder of the year before their November wedding to tell all stories the way I wanted to – the way they helped me see my creative style… and it surely paid off.
Let’s skip to the wedding!
The day started casual – in the midst of pre-wedding chaos! The boys were off to brunch at The Court of Two Sisters, and the bridal party got their hair, and make-up underway. Jake’s mom – Miriam worked on perfecting the florals around the venue, while I found a cozy nook to store my gear, and got to work on details, getting ready candids, and first looks. The more I moved between locations on-site, I couldn’t believe how perfect this destination wedding venue was for Morgann, Jake, and their guests. As the band, 12Eleven rolled in, and Love Good Rentals got set up – the vision of a vibrant, intimate wedding was coming to life.
The bride and groom photos were all taken on-site, and across the street from Margaret Place Wedding Venue in New Orleans, Louisiana. Morgann and Jake crushed the time we had allotted for bridal portraits and we pulled out all the stops for these editorial, unique, and vibrant couples photos.
After all the classic photos were wrapped up – I got ready for the ceremony that was in a unique location. With the venue courtyard being so intimate, Morgann and Jake wanted to utilize all the space they could – they held their beautiful ceremony on the balcony, while all their closet loved ones watched from below.
The reception got underway as the daylight burned off, and the band 12eleven put on a killer show that kept everyone singing and dancing for hours. Live music was such a memorable moment to add to Morgann and Jakes’s intimate wedding. It made their guest feel more intimate, more involved, and made for unforgettable memories. These direct flash party photos captured their amazing night, and vibe so well.
I am truly thankful Morgann and Jake chose me to document their destination wedding. Was a heckin’ good time.
